Aircraft have the ability to move through the atmosphere at high speed in three dimensions. This ability renders aircraft ideal for conducting many atmospheric science projects.
The AIMMS-20 is a fully integrated turnkey solution that provides airborne wind measurement, temperature and humidity. Including full support for flight-calibration of the air-data subsystem, the AIMMS-20 minimizes the time and expense involved in getting a wind data system installed, calibrated and fully operational. Its size, weight and power-consumption parameters make it suitable for installation on a wide variety of aircraft, from light single engine aircraft or even UAVs up much larger turboprop aircraft, which will soon be extended to jet aircraft operation. Work is currently underway to support operation at high subsonic flight speeds, including under severe icing conditions (see latest News: Contract Awarded by NASA Glenn Research Center).
